Stainless Steel Kitchen Sinks
Stainless steel remains the workhorse of the kitchen and laundry — hard-wearing, hygienic and endlessly practical. It resists heat and stains, suits any benchtop, and comes in enough bowl configurations and mounting styles to fit almost any layout.
Bowls and sizes
Choose the bowl layout around how you work. A single large bowl takes oven trays and baking dishes easily; a one-and-a-half or double bowl lets you keep one side clear for draining or prep. Measure your cabinet width — the sink has to fit within the base unit — and check the bowl depth, as a deeper bowl hides dishes and cuts splashing. A drainer pressed into the top is handy if bench space is tight.
Mounting styles
Topmount (drop-in) sinks sit in a cut-out with the rim on the bench and suit any benchtop, including laminate. Undermount sinks fix beneath a stone or solid-surface top for a seamless edge you can wipe straight into. Flush-mount sits the rim level with the bench for a crisp line. Match the style to your benchtop material and the look you’re after.
Gauge, finish and care
A thicker steel (lower gauge number) feels more solid and is quieter, especially with sound-deadening pads underneath. A satin or brushed finish hides water marks and scratches better than a mirror polish. Look for a generous corner radius if you like a soft look, or tight square corners for a modern one. A quick wipe and the occasional stainless cleaner keeps it bright.
