1500mm Vanities with a Left-Hand Basin and Storage

At 1500mm a vanity has real generosity to work with, and offsetting the basin to one side turns much of that width into uninterrupted bench. With the bowl set to the left and drawers filling the right, a floor-standing 1500mm unit gives a large bathroom both workspace and serious storage. This guide covers making the most of an offset-basin layout.

Why offset the basin

Centring a single basin on a wide top splits the bench into two narrow, less useful strips. Offsetting the bowl to the left instead creates one long, continuous run of usable bench to the right — ideal for laying out toiletries, appliances or a make-up station. It also concentrates the plumbing at one end, freeing the rest of the cabinet for full-depth drawers rather than trays notched around the trap.

Storage across a 1500mm cabinet

With the basin at the left, the right-hand section can carry a bank of full drawers plus a cupboard, giving a large bathroom the storage to keep everything off the bench. A floor-standing cabinet uses the full height to the floor, so drawers are deeper and the kickboard hides the pipework. It’s a natural fit for a main or ensuite bathroom that needs to store for the whole household.

Getting the layout right

Confirm your plumbing can meet the basin at the left end, or that it can be re-run during the renovation. Check the bench height suits daily use, look for soft-close runners on the drawers, and choose a benchtop and tapware finish that ties the long unit together. A large mirror above balances the width.
