Kitchen Sink Mixer Tap: Spout Height and Reach

A gooseneck kitchen mixer earns its keep by giving generous clearance over the sink. Its tall, curved spout makes room for stockpots and roasting trays, so the height and reach of that curve are the numbers that matter most.

Clearance over a deep sink

The whole point of a high gooseneck is the working space beneath it. Measure the gap you need to slide your largest pots and trays under the spout for filling and washing, then choose a mixer whose spout height comfortably beats it. A deep sink already gives some depth, but a tall spout adds the headroom that makes filling and rinsing bulky items easy rather than awkward.

Getting the reach right

Height is only half the picture — the spout also has to reach far enough out that the water lands near the centre of the bowl, not against the back wall or over the front edge. On a double sink, look for enough reach, or a swivelling spout, to serve both bowls. A stream aimed slightly forward of centre keeps splashing down.

Fit and clearance behind

Check what sits behind the tap too: a tall gooseneck under a window or overhead cupboard needs the handle to lift fully without fouling the sill or door. Confirm the handle’s clearance as well as the spout’s, and make sure the swivel arc covers the whole sink without hitting anything.
