Choosing a Wall-Mounted Fixed Shower Head

A single-function fixed shower head is the simplest, most reliable option in the bathroom: one spray pattern, one clean line off the wall, nothing to break. The one thing that really decides how it feels underfoot is how well it suits your home's water pressure.

Match the head to your pressure

Not every home runs the same pressure, and a head that feels generous on mains pressure can feel weak on a gravity-fed or low-pressure system. Fixed heads with a smaller face and fewer, more concentrated jets tend to hold a stronger feel when pressure is modest, while a very wide face wants plenty of flow behind it to stay even. If you’re unsure what your home delivers, err toward a design rated to perform across a range rather than one built purely for high pressure.

Single function, done well

The appeal of a fixed head is that it does one job cleanly. Look for a face that sheds limescale easily — rubber or silicone nozzles wipe clear with a thumb — and a flow that stays consistent rather than fading at the edges. A well-made single-spray head is often more satisfying day to day than a multi-function one whose extra modes go unused.

Height and placement

Set the outlet so the head clears the tallest person’s head with room to spare, and angle it to fall over the standing area rather than the wall. Getting the rough-in height right at the outset saves compromise later.

Compare options locally

If you’re in the Illawarra, seeing heads run at different pressures helps. Take a look at the range of showers at Just Bathrooms, a local showroom, to find one suited to your water supply.
