Floor-Standing Bath Fillers: Choosing the Right Spout Height
A floor-standing bath filler is a statement piece, but it only works if its proportions suit the tub beside it. The key measurement is spout height — the outlet has to clear the bath rim and reach in far enough to pour cleanly into the water.
Height above the rim
The spout must sit comfortably above the tub’s rim so the water falls freely into the bath rather than dribbling down the outside. Freestanding tubs vary a lot in rim height, so measure your tub before choosing the filler — a tall bath needs a taller tap, while a lower tub suits a more modest column. Aim for a clear gap between the outlet and the rim so filling looks and works the way a freestanding filler should.
Reach and position over the tub
Height alone isn’t enough; the outlet also has to reach in past the rim so the water lands inside the bath, not on the edge. Consider where the filler will stand relative to the tub — usually at one end or along a side — and check the spout’s reach carries the water well over the water line. Plan the tap’s floor position and the tub’s position together, since the filler’s rough-in is set into the floor and can’t shift afterward.
Balancing looks and proportion
A freestanding filler should feel proportionate to the tub, neither dwarfed by a large bath nor towering over a small one. Match its curve and finish to the tub’s style and the room’s other tapware so the piece reads as intentional.

In the Illawarra region you can see fillers set beside real tubs to judge the proportions. Explore the range of tapware at Just Bathrooms, a local showroom, to match a filler to your bath.
