Fixed Shower Heads: Spray Patterns and Sizing
A standalone fixed shower head pairs with a wall or ceiling arm to give a clean, permanent overhead shower. With no diverter or hose to think about, the two decisions that shape it are the spray pattern it delivers and the face size you choose.
Spray patterns
Fixed heads range from a soft, wide rainfall drop to a firmer, more concentrated spray. A rainfall pattern feels gentle and enveloping and suits a relaxed shower; a tighter spray feels more energetic and rinses quickly, which some prefer for a brisk morning wash. Single-function heads keep it simple with one well-tuned pattern, and that reliability is often more useful than a multi-mode head whose extra settings go unused.
Choosing a face size
Face size sets both the look and the coverage. A larger face bathes the shoulders in one broad fall but needs to sit high and far enough out to land properly, and it draws more flow to stay even. A smaller face concentrates the spray and copes better with modest pressure. Match the size to both the recess and your water supply rather than simply going as large as possible.
Pairing with the right arm
Because a fixed head is only as well-placed as its arm, choose the arm length and angle to carry the head over the standing area. Keep the head, arm and flange in one shape and finish so the fitting looks intentional.
