600mm Vanities: A Practical Size
The 600mm vanity is one of the most popular sizes for a reason — it fits a single basin comfortably, offers useful storage and slots into the majority of bathrooms without dominating them. It's the natural starting point for most main bathrooms and ensuites.
Why 600mm works
At 600mm wide, a vanity gives room for a single basin with a little bench space either side, plus a cupboard or drawers beneath. It suits one-person use well and still fits where an 750mm or 900mm unit would feel tight. If two people share a main bathroom you may want wider, but for most rooms 600mm balances storage and floor space neatly.
Wall-hung or floor-standing
Wall-hung vanities free up the floor beneath, making the room feel bigger and easier to clean, but they need solid wall fixing planned before the wall is lined. Floor-standing units are simpler to install and hide the plumbing, and they give a little more storage. Choose based on the look you want and how the plumbing sits.
Storage, top and basin
Drawers generally use the space better than a single cupboard, especially with a cut-out around the plumbing. Consider the benchtop material and whether the basin is inset, above-counter or integrated — each changes the usable bench height and the tapware you’ll need. Buy the vanity, top and basin as a coordinated set where you can.
